Session Information

In March 2013 Laundry Room Studio uploaded a new photo to their Facebook page which revealed the existence of this session. The photo showed a master reel box labelled 'Foo Fighters demo' and 'Reel 1', dated '10.26.96'. Listed as being on the reel were tones and pads (Tones are used to ensure accurate alignment of recording devices, a record pad follows for a similar use) followed by several songs - 'Hey, Johnny Park!', 'Monkey Wrench', three takes of 'New Way Home' and 'Wind Up'. Given that the reel is labelled as number one it's possible other reels with further songs exist but these are not visible in the image posted.

This session is therefore likely to have been used as an opportunity for the band to put on tape rough versions of new songs that they could then use to shop around for a producer on their next studio album, the first as a proper band.

Not long after the existence of this session became known a mysterious YouTube account began uploading tracks from what they said was an early demo, featuring songs featured on 'The Colour And The Shape' with William Goldsmith on drums. The two tracks uploaded were 'Monkey Wrench' and 'Hey, Johnny Park!' and whilst it's not confirmed or proven it's extremely likely they came from this recording session.

The sound of the demos are very similar to that of other Laundry Room recordings and it's unlikely they recorded these songs in the studio more than once. The uploader did suggest more songs would be uploaded but instead soon deleted the video and the account.

Another point of note regarding this session is the track 'Make A Bet'. The song was released as a B-Side to the 'Learn To Fly' single in 1999.Despite the liner notes on that CD stating the track was recorded at Grandmaster Recorders, Ltd Barrett Jones has stated he believed that recording to have actually come from a session at his Laundry Room Studio.

Given the extreme similarity in sound between that song and the above tracks it's very likely the recording comes from this session also, although again this is unconfirmed.
