Session Information

Before heading out on what would be the final Scream tour in North America Dave Grohl once again returned to Arlington, Virginia and the Laundry Room Studio to take part in a somewhat strange recording session. Little information is known of the session except for the description given in the liner notes for the CD release known as 'Harlingtox A.D'.

"How did this occur?" the liner notes begin. 'Harlingtox A.D.' (A.D. short for Angel Divine) were not a band, rather a musical collective of Grohl, Tos Nieuwenhuizen, Barrett Jones and Bruce Merkle. Tos had recorded backing vocals with Scream in 1986 for the 'Banging The Drum' record and had been touring in Europe with Scream in his band 'God'. Grohl had met Bruce Merkle some years previous and the pair asked him to sing vocals on the project, Merkle agreeing. "Tos found Bruce right where he could be found in those years, at the bar of D.C. Space and asked him to sing. Bruce, remembering having told Dave he would, did, suggesting it be called Harlingtox." the liner notes describe.

The four piece recorded at least five tracks although nothing is known about the recording process beyond what is described in the liner notes with recording duties seemingly mixed between the four. Grohl recorded guitar, bass and drums on the track 'Treason Daddy Brother In Crime Real Patriotic Type Stuff', guitar on the track 'Recycled Children Never To Be Grown' and bass on the remaining three. Nieuwenhuizen provided guitars on all five tracks and bass on 'Recycled Children Never To Be Grown'. Barrett Jones provided drums on the remaining four tracks as well as engineering the session and finally Merkle provided vocals for all tracks.

Despite recording the material in April 1990 and mixing it two months later the material was not released until 1996, remixed at Dan Kozak's Squeaky Wheel Studio in College Park, Maryland.
