Session Information
Throughout his time in Nirvana Dave Grohl continued to write and record his own material whenever the opportunity arose, partnering up with his friend Barrett Jones at his Laundry Room Studio in Seattle, Washington.
Inside the booklet of the 2004 Nirvana Box Set release ‘With The Lights Out’ is a photo of a studio reel box with details of songs the band recorded at Barrett’s studio on April 7th 1992. As well as the Nirvana tracks three Grohl compositions are listed on the box – ‘Red Pellet Guns’, ‘What I’m About’ and ‘Back In Treatment’, with a recording date of May 1992.
‘Red Pellet Guns’ is almost certain to be either a working title or mislabel of the song ‘Butterflies’ since those words are lyrics in the song. It is also likely the two other tracks listed are similarly mislabels or early working titles since when asked about the tracks in 2007 Barrett Jones didn’t recall them and found nothing in his vault with those titles.
Barrett was once again asked about the contents of this reel in 2013 via the Laundry Room Studio Facebook page and he once again confirmed that he didn't recall those two track titles and also mentioned that the master reel was now in the possession of Universal/Nirvana LLC.
