Foo Fighters have just wrapped up their first Australian show since 2023 with a one-off performance in Tasmania and during the event Dave Grohl made two exciting announcements to the bumper crowd.
Firstly, he confirmed what many fans had suspected ever since they released standalone singles last year and followed them up with details of the huge 2026 'Take Cover' tour - a brand new Foo Fighters album, a follow up to 2022s critically acclaimed 'But Here We Are', is on the way, with Dave revealing to the excited crowd that recording was completed just a few days ago.
"We'll be back here sooner than you think," he told the crowd. "I know when we're coming back...and it's before my next birthday, just so you all know."
He went on to tease: "We might have a whole new record of fuckin' songs that we just finished the other day." He added a coy shrug and, "I don't know" as the rest of the band played a celebratory note.
That obviously means that just like the previous album, recording has been completed entirely in secrecy, and will surely be the first full-length album to feature new drummer Ilan Rubin following his contribution to the 2025 single 'Asking For A Friend'. We'll hopefully discover more details of the recording process in the coming weeks.
We'd expect the album is going to be scheduled to arrive somewhere around the second third of the year, circa April or May, before they kick off their tour in June, but a quicker "surprise" drop could also be on the cards. We understand Dave didn't specify whether only recording was completed, or the entire process including mixing and mastering was also in the can.
Grohl also revealed that whilst the show tonight in Launceston was a one-off with no others in Australia scheduled for this month, Foo Fighters would be back in the country for a full tour within the next year, specifically guaranteeing their return before his birthday next year on January 14th, 2027.
Given the bands history with the country this likely means a stadium tour in December or early January with full details likely to be revealed as early as next week. Back in March 2022 the band played a similar one-off show in Geelong and unveiled details of a full tour scheduled for later that year just three days later. Unfortunately that tour did not take place due to the tragic passing of Taylor Hawkins.
We'd suspect that fans in New Zealand should also be expecting the band around the same time, as is traditional, and other Australasian countries could also potentially be on the cards.
